What’s the purpose of “The FastWeb Race”? Why is Keynote sponsoring this? |
| |
Everyday we work with Web dev and ops folks and we see a lot of the same performance issues come up. We think there’s an opportunity to share best practices with the Web community using real world examples. Would you also believe that we think this stuff is fun? We’ve assembled a great panel of Web performance experts who are ready to roll up their sleeves and dive into each submission. |
Can you say more about what an entry looks like? |
| |
OK, here are some examples for what your entry to The FastWeb Race could look like: |
| |
A navigation path through a catalog and shopping cart on a retail
Web site. |
An online travel booking application. |
A Web application that uses Ajax such as Web mail. |
| |
In short, anything done over the Web is fair game. |
| |
How will entries be chosen by The FastWeb Race panel? And what’s the likelihood of getting selected? |
| |
What we’re going to do is review all the entries and select one for each category. Make sure you submit your script along with your entry. We also suggest you submit your 5-City-Test results for your site. All you need to do is hit the “Push-to-Start” button in KITE, upload the script you recorded and test your site’s performance. Submissions that include the 5-City-Test are preferred. |
What will I get if I’m selected? |
| |
If our judges select your site as “Fastest in the world”, you will receive The FastWeb Race Performance Award and get 6 months of free performance monitoring from Keynote Systems. If you are “Eager to be fastest” and get selected you will get free performance analysis and guidance from our judges on how to improve your Web performance. As you can imagine, this doesn’t come cheap so we think there’s a lot of value here for you.

| |
Why do submissions to the The FastWeb Race involve recording our entry using KITE? |
| |
Our judges use the script you record as a common point of reference when they analyze your site or app performance. Even more, KITE is a powerful way for you to understand the performance of your Web site or app, in other words, you learn how your users are experiencing your site on their end of the browser. After recording your entry, just run a 5-City-Test on Keynote’s global network and you can see instantly how your site performs from various locations around the world. We suggest you submit those test results along with your script. |
